Two Rio Tinto General Electric diesel electric locomotives each capable of producing more than 4,000 horsepower, wait alongside the access road for a train coming from the other direction, probably to exchange crews, This train and the many others, consisted of 236 wagon loads of iron ore with each wagon containing more than 100 tons.
There are two rail tracks and operate on the keep right system rather than keep left as other road and railway systems in Australia. The Tom Price Railway access road is on a mining lease and a permit is required to travel along it.
