Since 1905 Charleville became the headquarters of the Bush Brotherhood Church. The order was known as the Bush Brotherhood of St. Paul. This chapel was sold to the Girl Guides in the 1980s. (Description supplied with photograph)
'Beilby' adds:
The Boys' and Girls' Hostel were part of the responsibility of the priests of the Bush Brotherhood of St. Paul. The Girls' Hostel was in the care of the Sisters of the Sacred Advent. In the 1940's there were about three sisters stationed at the Girls' Hostel. The Boys' Hostel, known as The Boggo, was in the care of a manager. The Girls' Hostel was a fine building, probably funded by the Sisters' organization. The Boys' Hostel was a rather more ramshackle place, low set, devoid of the grandeur of the Gir's Hostel. The Chapel was set between the two hostels on the side of the block closest to Bradley's Gully. The Gir's Hostel went the Charleville way - by fire. The Boys' Hostel fell gradually into a state of disrepair and was probably not worthy of Charleville immolation - as was the fate of most significant buildings in the town.
