Fifty years of the timber industry in Canungra. 1884 Canungra Sawmills established by David Lahey. In 1897, the sawmills were totally destroyed by fire and rebuilt on larger and on a more modern scale. In 1900 the construction of the Canungra Pine Creek Tramway began. In 1906 the mills were destroyed by fire and rebuilt again. In 1912, new machinery was installed, but in 1920 the company went into voluntary liquidation. The commonwealth War Service Homes Department purchased the whole concern after its liquidation. In 1921, C.W.S.H. closed the works down. Brisbane Timbers Ltd. tendered and took over the concern. 1933 Standply Timber Co. opened up the mill and added an advanced veneer and plywood plant. After World War II (approx. 1945) this ceased to operate. (Description supplied with photograph.)
