Traffic passes over the Jubilee Bridge, Gold Coast, 1940-1950

View of cars, many of them towing caravans, travelling across the Jubilee Bridge. The bridge, built in 1925, connected Southport to the Main Beach at Surfer's Paradise.
Weekends, Easter, and Christmas brought increasing numbers of Brisbane-registered cars to the coast, and the first 'traffic jams' were recorded as early as 1926 (Information taken from: R. Longhurst, Gold Coast : our heritage in focus, 1995).
