Carmila (early spelling was Carmilla) is 30 miles south of Sarina on the North Coast Railway. In 1921 the Plane Creek Central Sugar Mill built a 2ft gauge tramline from Carmila siding, four miles long, along Carmila Creek to newly developed sugarcane farms. The internal combustion engine was one of two such owned by the Plane Creek Mill.
