The lone pine sign, It says: Lone Pine was named after the huge hoop pine that stands in front of you. It was planted by Daniel Clarkson in 1867 when Lone Pine was a cotton farm. This makes it more than 130 years old. It was struck by lighting in 1975 but survived after being trimmed by a local tree surgeon. Hoop pines are Queensland's tallest native tree species and can be found along the coastline from northern New South Wales to northern Queensland,
