Restoration is under way on the most famous steps in Australia. From these steps on 11 November 1975 Gough Whitlam uttered the words "Well may we say 'God save the Queen', because nothing will save the Governor-General!" in response to his dismissal by the then Governor-General, Sir John Kerr.

Just opposite the front steps of the Old Parliament House is the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. The postman's just arrived for a delivery but the camp fire's off to a bit of smokey start.
